Texas Non Owner SR22 Insurance

Texas Non Owner SR22 Insurance

If your Texas driver’s license has been suspended or revoked for any reason, you will be required to purchase a Texas Non-Owner SR22 in order to get it reinstated.

When you purchase SR22 insurance, your insurance company will file a “Form SR22 Insurance Certificate” with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

This form must be kept on file for two years from the date of your conviction. If you fail to maintain your SR22 policy, the policy requires your insurance company to notify the DPS. Enforcement action may be taken.

If you do not own a vehicle, you can purchase non-owner SR22 insurance and file a “non-owner Form SR22.”

Limitations of SR22 Non Owner Insurance Coverage:

  • It is written for one person only
  • It is liability only coverage; collision and comprehensive coverage cannot be added
  • It does not cover vehicles in the policyholder’s household
  • It does not cover vehicles that are driven on a regular basis
  • It does not cover rental cars or commercial vehicles

If your driver’s license suspension is due to a DWI with a BAC of higher than 0.15 or due to a subsequent DWI, you will be ordered to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle for 1 year following your suspension. In order to fulfill this requirement, you must own or have regular access to a vehicle, which means that as long as you are under an ignition interlock requirement, you will not qualify for non-owner SR22 insurance.
