Nebraska Non Owner SR22 Insurance

Nebraska Non Owner SR22 Insurance

If your Nebraska driver’s license has been suspended or revoked because of a DUI, you must purchase SR22 insurance to prove to the State that all of the vehicles you own are insured. If you do not own any vehicles, then you will be required to purchase non-owner SR22 insurance. A non-owner SR22 policy will allow you to drive any vehicle that is lent to you, except for vehicles owned by household members.

Once you purchase your non-owner SR22 insurance policy, your insurance company will issue the non-owner SR22 form. Ask them to file it electronically. If they refuse to do so, you or they can hand deliver it or mail it to the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Be aware that the DMV will not accept SR22 filings by fax.

If your SR22 requirement is due to a DUI, then you will need to keep your SR22 on file for 3 years from the date of your citation. If you fail to maintain your SR22 insurance for this long, then your driver’s license will be suspended again.
