Minnesota Non Owner SR22 Insurance

Minnesota Non Owner SR22 Insurance

Many states require certain drivers, usually those convicted of an alcohol-related driving offense such as DUI or refusing to submit to a chemical alcohol test, to carry a liability insurance known as SR22 insurance.

SR22 insurance requires an insurance company to file an SR22 form with a state’s DMV. This allows a DMV to keep an eye on “problem drivers”

If one of these drivers does not own a vehicle, he or she is required to carry non-owner SR22 insurance. Non-owner SR22 insurance is liability insurance that covers other vehicles and drivers in the event of a future accident. It does not cover the person named on the policy nor the vehicle he or she is driving.

The State of Minnesota does not require SR22 insurance, so if you live in Minnesota, you do not need to worry about non-owner SR22 insurance. However, if you live in Minnesota, and you get into trouble (such as a DUI) in a state that does require SR22 insurance, then you will likely be required to carry SR22 insurance in that state.
