Maryland Non Owner SR22 Insurance

Maryland Non Owner SR22 Insurance

SR22 insurance is a liability insurance that many states require of those who have been convicted of DUI. If one has an SR22 requirement and does not own his or her own vehicle, then he or she will be required to carry non-owner SR22 insurance.

Non-owner SR22 insurance covers other drivers and their vehicles in the event of a future accident. It does not cover the holder of the insurance, or the vehicle he or she is driving.

Maryland does not require SR22 insurance, so there is no need to worry about non-owner SR22 insurance if you have a Maryland driver’s license, unless…Maryland does not require SR22 insurance, but you might still have to carry it if you get in trouble in another state.

For example, let’s say that while traveling, you get a DUI in Illinois, and Illinois requires DUI offenders to carry SR22 insurance. You too, even though you live in Maryland, may be required to fulfill Illinois’ SR22 requirements. The laws vary from state to state, so if you find yourself in this situation, ask your lawyer for guidance, or contact the DMV in the state where SR22 insurance is required.
